I LIKE THE WAY YOU MOVE

long time, aye? i've been listening to acoustic or country-ish music lately, so maybe my mood hasn't been so enthusiastic. but regardless, this stuff is so good.
two gallants : i saw them at SXSW for free. two guys making good music and telling stories.
owen, the snake the cross the crown, william elliott whitmore : they came through pittsburgh a few weeks ago, and this was the first time i'd seen owen since i was a freshman in college. mike kinsella writes such good songs, but not in that sappy emo way. [i think i spent a good car ride trying to convince someone of that] william whitmore has the most amazing gravelly voice i have ever heard, and his songs ring of those troubled times we all know are going to happen to us someday. that's why he gets such a good response from new crowds; deep down, people can relate to his banjo-blues. he's also a really nice guy, and tips his hat in thanks at the crowd after each song.

i've also been listening to dancey stuff, which is normal, but that's another post altogether. i guess i should do a sxsw recap soon. soon!

boca chica + the amazing rolo

both of these bands are from pittsburgh, pa. sometimes i love this town!

i've never heard of the band Boca Chica, but i'm glad i decided to catch up on my podcast listening. they were featured on NPR's Open Mic music like a month ago. [so maybe i am really behind on podcasts...] the song featured on the show is really really good, as a whole. vocals are really nice, the music itself was beautiful. it had a really nice emotion to it.

the amazing rolo was also featured on Open Mic, but more recently. the amazing rolo is Yann Seznec, who my roommate sometimes makes music with. i saw him on the NPR website before he even knew he was on there, and i suggest you check his music out. his blogger is here.

2 ida : what can i do
3 the frames : what happens when the heart just stops
4 sammy hart : maybe next year [live]
5 saves the day : hold
6 low : when i go deaf
7 adelic : since you left town
8 am/fm : i was never here two seconds ago
9 damien jurado : ohio
10 lucero : kiss the bottle
11 maximo park : going missing
12 rainer maria : automatic
13 matt pond pa : last song
14 owen : she's a thief
15 tps : be still my heart
16 say hi to your mom : pop music of the future
17 youth group : shadowland
18 imogen heap : hide & seek

this is my playlist for decemberish. it's not a picking of other montly playlists, but rather songs that make me feel like it's nearing the end of something. some are slow, some are not, some are pop-ey, some are country-ey. [hee hee] i think this is a good solid mix, and if you want a copy, just email me.
happy new year. ♥

IDA

i finally got heart like a river from Ida. i guess i didn't realize how long their discography was, and how long they've been around. i guess i'm not 'hip' and 'cool', because i only heard about them from polyvinyl records earlier this year.
the album is something beautiful. there is a mix of violin and piano in addition to guitars and male and female vocals. the songs ring of a softness that kind of makes my heart beat a little slower and my breaths last a little longer.
maybe i am too quick to like polyvinyl bands, but in all sincerity, i like this album. you have to be in the mood for something slow and mellow, but i think everyone is this time of year.

IRON AND WINE / CALEXICO

i will never stop saying that i love NPR, and here is another reason why. you can listen to iron and wine and calexico play a live set, and if you subscribe to NPR podcasts, you can keep hearing good music daily.

that's all for today, i think. these next two weeks are going to be way too busy for me to update this blog that often, but maybe after that it will be different. i'm thinking of developing a full-blown online magazine, but that won't happen til at least next summer.
